An online store for a Russian cosmetics brand. Initially in 2022, the client came to me with the task of making a business personal website for potential partners, without a catalogue and other functionality of an online store. The initial goal of the website was to show the difference from typical cosmetics brands, to convey the history and philosophy of the brand, to express key meanings without words.
About client
Scientist in love is a cosmetics brand from Siberia. The brand develops and produces cosmetics entirely by itself. They have their own cutting-edge laboratory located in Novosibirsk’s Akademgorodok, a staff of chemical scientists, and a technologically advanced GMP-compliant production facility.
Prototyping
We discussed the structure of the website with the project manager. The texts were provided by the client, the prototype was developed in 3 days. I took into account all the client’s content preferences, so some wording changed during the development.
Challenge
Initially the client wanted a very bold and colourful design, to show the brand positioning — supporting strong women.
At this stage I picked up visual references, the future mood of the site. The palette and font were already in place thanks to the branding.

Design Concept
The design turned out to be very bold in concept, but the client was not ready for such a step forward, even though that was the initial request. On the actual website with their content, they realised that they needed to calm the design down a bit.
So I redesigned the concepts, left only one accent colour — red, the base of the branding, and added the rest of the colours point by point to some blocks.
Solution
We got a pretty colourful, yet low-key website that displayed the brand positioning and their philosophy.
How the website has changed over time
In this way, the site served the customers for a year, after which they decided to expand and make the business card online shop, I helped to build the structure of the new pages + we finalised the main page, because after a while the client came to the decision to move away from the past positioning and make the design even less bright.
Partner page
At the same time, we made a separate landing page for wholesale partners.
How the website has changed over time
In June 2024 we made another revision of the site, completely removing all unnecessary blocks and colourful elements, so we got a rather minimalistic and concise site, which solves the task at hand.
We have been working with the client for 2 years now on different tasks and growing together. I continue to make changes to the site and maintain it.
